Association Between Bridge Characteristics and Maintenance Prioritization for Bailey Bridges in Bhutan

Kinga_Award-SEATUC2024

Purpose of the Research

The purpose of this research is to explore the association between maintenance prioritization of Bailey Bridge and the key bridge characteristics such as bridge age, Bailey arrangements, road classification, number of spans, loading capacity, average daily traffic, rainfall type, and abutment type. This study offers insights for effective bridge management.

Research Summary

Bailey Bridge is a semi-permanent bridge, yet it remained a permanent bridge in Bhutan due to budget constraints for a new bridge construction. The current maintenance prioritization is based on the bridge structure condition as well as the inventory data. This research investigates the association between bridge characteristics and maintenance prioritization of Bailey bridges to understand their correlation for effective bridge management.

Future Prospects

This research contributes to understanding the association of bridge characteristics with the maintenance prioritization of Bailey bridges which offers insights for effective bridge management in Bhutan. This research is limited to only the Bailey Bridge and future research shall be carried out for other bridge types in the Department of Surface Transport in Bhutan.
